Good, high-paying, middle class jobs are the backbone of the American economy, and the freedom to innovate is what makes ours the most prosperous nation in the world. For too many families, however, the profits of the largest multinational corporations never seem to trickle down, leaving each new generation having to fight harder to achieve the American dream. Local entrepreneurs similarly often struggle to bring their ideas to fruition because the same big players push for regulations that put a thumb on the scales. But we can ensure that everyone who works for it can support themselves and their families by clearing the way for those innovators to start and keep business here.
Americans have the best medical professionals and healthcare in the world, but millions of Americans lack access to quality affordable healthcare. For many, access to care is too expensive. But others are concerned about losing access to the care they like if we force everyone into a government-run program. Ryan believes there is no one-size-fits-all answer to our healthcare coverage crisis.
America’s schools too often fail our children and families because of politicians’ refusal to act on what we know to be the long-term consequences of not investing in the next generation - our students.
The United States has the world’s strongest, best-trained, and most well-equipped armed forces, many of whom call CD-5 home, along with more than 100,000 of our brave veterans. We owe it to them, their families, and all those who sacrificed for America to keep it that way. That starts with trusting our military leaders to tell us what our servicemembers need to protect the national defense and then making sure they get it. It also means keeping our commitments to those who have served. And it means adhering to the rule of law, so that our allies respect our word and our enemies fear our resolve.
Climate change is real, we are contributing to it, and we owe it to our children to reverse the damage we are causing to the environment. At the same time, it is vital that America becomes energy independent and that we not leave anyone behind in the transition to a green economy.
The Second Amendment enshrines our right to keep and bear arms. Ryan is for responsible gun ownership. How to strike the right balance is debatable, and Ryan is willing to listen. But we can all agree that no parent should have to consider purchasing a bulletproof backpack for their child and that no one should have to live in constant fear of yet another mass shooting. To respect the rights of gun owners while protecting our communities from further tragedies, Ryan will work across the aisle on commonsense reforms.
Election interference is a significant concern, but the greatest threat to our elections are the systematic and deliberate efforts to disenfranchise Americans and make it harder to vote.
Immigration has always been the engine that powers the American economy. We should welcome those fleeing from violence and those seeking to come to the United States to contribute to our prosperity. At the same time, we must respect the rule of law. Balancing those interests means providing a pathway for people already here and those who want to live the American dream to become citizens.
Hardworking Americans shouldn’t pay higher tax rates than billionaires and multinational companies. We should also level the playing field for small businessowners and American entrepreneurs who create jobs here that pay a living wage.
